It's a mystery to meWe have a greed with which we have agreedYou think you have to want more than you needUntil you have it all you won't be free
Eddie Vedder, Society
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.”
- Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

I watched Into the Wild last night (It's one of the newly added films on netflix)
It's been a couple years sine I've watched the movie & even though I've seen it a handful of times to me it is one of those stories that every time I watch it I take something new away from it. Depending, on where I have been in my life & the state of my mind I've been in the journey of Alexander has either stirred something up, brought something to light, or showed me a completely different way of viewing something. Additionally, the soundtrack to the film by Eddie Vedder is equally as inspiring. Above you can see on of my favorite songs & one of my favorite quotes from the film. The most stirring take away from watching it this time was the title of this post: "until you have it all you won't be free". I am definitely going to remember this as I go through each day because it has hard to live in such a consumer driven society & not get sucked in. Only to discover later that all you have consumed never seems to be enough & all you have makes you more cautious through life. Go explore, be in nature, be free.
If you have not yet see the film or read the book, I strongly recommend it.
*Also I'd love to hear of any books or movies that have a similar affect on you.
