We camped at Stadig Campground one night in Wells ME. It was a lovely campground & our site in particular was was one of the bests, we lucked out despite having booked so late. It backed up to the woods, our neighbors were spread out from us, & we were close to the bathrooms, but not too close.
The following morning we went to the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, which was also in Wells, ME. There is a leisurely trail at the refuge which is about two miles long and meanders along the marshlands. Here is the trail map & the pictures that follow are of our time on the trail...it was beautiful, just make sure to have bug spray!
Rachel Carson was an environmental pioneer. Her novel Silent Spring, in which she took on the chemical industry and raised important questions about mankind's impact on nature, is credited with helping to launch the contemporary American environmental movement. She a role model of mine & someone I look up to so it was especially exciting to get to visit this refuge dedicated to her.
