colorado - great sand dunes national park - the dunes

I had been craving a trip away & a night of sleeping outside, so this past weekend Jon & I decided to head down to Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado. I was completely in awe of the beauty of this place, as well as taken a back by how incredible nature is in it's ability to create a place like this. We left Denver at 7:30 am & arrived at the park at 11 am. The drive was beautiful & we luckily had perfect weather. When we arrived we stopped at the visitor center to get some advice, & after speaking with a very helpful volunteer we had our day planned. We began with heading to the dunes & trekking all the way to the top of high dune. This hike was definitely a challenge because of the fact you are hiking up sand, but getting to the top is well worth it. The views were spectacular  & the whole place feels a bit surreal; in a magical way. Recommendations: Bring a small pack with water & a snack(s), apply sunscreen, consider a hat, wear light shoes p.s. they will get sand in them, just embrace it. On cooler days that have cloud coverage we were told some people don't even wear shoes. After we got done hiking the dunes we headed to Medano Creek, post to follow. Below are pictures from our time at the dunes...
